ABOUT US
I started racing professionally when I was 17
years old back in 1993. My first race meeting was at the popular
“Echo Park Speedway” in Collinsville. I’m a second generation
racer with my father giving me his powerful “Bowen Engine Centre” LH
Torana to race in the early days. I shared the drive with him
until we decided to build a new VN V6 powered commodore. This car
was to be the first carby V6 Commodore registered in North
Queensland. Super Street Sedan was the go forward class back
then with full fields in A, B and C grade. That VN commodore
would see a lot of race meets over a 7 year period.
I stepped up a class into modified production by
putting fuel injection on the engine and changing minimal roll cage
areas to follow the modified production rules/specs. My last meeting
in that car before I sold it as a rolling shell was to be the 2005
Aust Modified Production Title held at Lismore. We qualified 15th
that night with some 70 competitors racing at that meeting. On
the trip home to Mackay after that meeting I was already planning to
build a new Holden VX V6 Commodore. It took me 9 months to complete.
The car has since raced at 15 meetings and has been the most
competitive car I have built yet.
I must mention the engine; gearbox and diff are
all built and maintained by my father Greg, owner operator of a very
busy mechanical workshop / engine reconditioning firm, Bowen Engine
Centre. Bowen Engine Centre is the main sponsor of my race car for
obvious reasons. The cost involved in race cars can be high,
however the help, knowledge and expertise Bowen Engine Centre gives
me, and the car, is second to none. I would not be racing if it
wasn’t for my father. Thanks again.
